তাইওয়ানে ভয়াবহ ট্রেন দুর্ঘটনা ঘটেছে। এতে ১৮ যাত্রী নিহত এবং আহত হয়েছেন অন্তত ১৭১ জন। রোববার স্থানীয় সময় বিকেল ৫টার দিকে এ দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে। আন্তজার্তিক সংবাদমাধ্যম আল জাজিরার খবরে বলা হয়েছে, ‘পুয়ুমা এক্সপ্রেস’ নামক ট্রেনটি ৩৬৬ জন যাত্রী নিয়ে তায়পির সুবুরব থেকে তাইতুং যাচ্ছিল।
দেশটির ফায়ার এজেন্সি প্রাথমিকভাবে জানায়, দুর্ঘটনায় ২২ জন নিহত হয়েছেন, তবে পরে জানায় গণনায় ভুল ছিল আসলে মারা গেছেন ১৮জন। দ্রুতগতির এই ট্রেনের আটটি বগির মধ্যে পাঁচটিই লাইনচ্যুত হয়। বাঁকি তিনটিও প্রচন্ড রকমের ধাক্কা খায় বলে জানিয়েছে তাইওয়ান রেলওয়ে কর্তৃপক্ষ।
তবে কি কারণে এ দুর্ঘটনা ঘটেছে তাৎক্ষণিভাবে তা জানা যায়নি। প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীরা বলছেন, তারা বড় ধরনের শব্দ শুনেছেন এবং স্ফূলিঙ্গ আর ধোঁয়া দেখেছেন। ঘটনাটি তদন্ত করে দেখা হচ্ছে বলে জানিয়েছে রেলওয়ে কর্তৃপক্ষ।
এর আগে ১৯৯১ সালে উত্তর তাইওয়ানের মিয়াওলি প্রদেশে সবচেয়ে বড় ট্রেন দুর্ঘটনাটি ঘটে। যাতে ৩০ জন মারা যান, আহত হন ১১২ জন।
