চালকহীন মহাকাশ বিমান এক্স-৩৭বি অরবিটাল টেস্ট ভেহিক্যাল বা ওটিভি উৎক্ষেপণ করবে মার্কিন বিমান বাহিনী। চলতি মাসের ৭ তারিখে এটি উৎক্ষেপণ করার ঘোষণা দেয়া হয়েছে।
মার্কিন বিমান বাহিনী জানিয়েছে, ইলন মাস্কের স্পেস এক্স ফ্যালকন ৯ রকেট থেকে এই প্রথম বারের মতো এটি মহাকাশে ছোঁড়া হবে। এ নিয়ে পঞ্চমবারের মতো মহাকাশ যাত্রা করবে এক্স-৩৭বি।
জানা গেছে, চালকহীন বিমানটি ২৯ ফুট লম্বা আর উচ্চতায় ৯.৫ ফুট। ওজন ৪ হাজার ৯শ' ৮৯ কেজি।
মহাকাশ যাত্রায় পৃথিবীর কক্ষে দীর্ঘ অবস্থানকালে এটি কি ধরণের পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষা চালায় তা বরাবরই গোপন রাখে আমেরিকা। মার্কিন মহাকাশ গবেষণা কেন্দ্র বা নাসা ১৯৯৯ সালে মহাকাশ খেয়া হিসেবে প্রথম এক্স-৩৭ তৈরি করে। এই মহাকাশ খেয়াটিকে বারবার ব্যবহারের উপযোগী করে বানানো হয়েছিল। এরপর মার্কিন বিমান বাহিনী ২০০৬ সালে এক্স-৩৭বি তৈরির ঘোষণা দেয়।
এক্স-৩৭বি প্রথম মহাকাশে পাঠানো হয়েছিল ২০১০ সালে। এটি ২২৪ দিন কক্ষপথে অবস্থান করে আবার পৃথিবীতে ফিরে আসে। এরপর আরও তিন দফা এক্স-৩৭বিকে মহাকাশে পাঠানো হয়েছে এবং কাজ শেষে তা ফিরে এসেছে। শেষবার যখন এক্স-৩৭বি মহাকাশে পাঠানো হয়েছিল তথন এটি টানা ৭১৮ দিন মহাকাশে অবস্থানের রেকর্ড সৃষ্টি করে গত মে মাসে আমেরিকায় ফিরে আসে।
