টেস্ট দলে জায়গা না পাওয়ার দুঃখ ভুলে থাকার একটা উপলক্ষ্য পেয়ে গেলেন মাহমুদুল্লাহ রিয়াদ। বাংলাদেশ যখন অস্ট্রেলিয়ার বিপক্ষে টেস্ট নিয়ে ব্যস্ত থাকবে, মাহমুদুল্লাহ তখন ব্যস্ত থাকতেন ক্যারিবিয়ান প্রিমিয়ার লিগ (সিপিএল) নিয়ে। সিপিএলে সাকিবের দল জ্যামাইকা তালাওয়াহসে ডাক পেয়েছেন তিনি।
গতকাল অস্ট্রেলিয়ার বিপক্ষে টেস্ট সিরিজের প্রথম ম্যাচের জন্য দল ঘোষণা করেছে বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ড। ঘোষিত জায়গা মিলেনি মাহমুদুল্লাহর। এ নিয়ে সমালোচনায় মুখর ক্রিকেটাঙ্গন।
এর মধ্যেই জানা গেলো, এবারের সিপিএলে তৃতীয় বাংলাদেশি হিসেবে ডাক পেয়েছেন মাহমুদুল্লাহ। জ্যামাইকা সাকিব আল হাসানের পুরোনো দল। টেস্ট খেলতে দল ছেড়ে এসেছেন তিনি। জানা গেছে, মাহমুদুল্লাহ লিগের বাকি অংশে জ্যামাইকাতে খেলবেন।
মাহমুদুল্লাহর আগে এ বছরের সিপিএলে ছিলেন সাকিব ও মিরাজ। সাকিব কয়েকটি ম্যাচ খেললেও ত্রিনবাগো নাইট রাইডার্সে ডাক পাওয়া মিরাজ কোনো ম্যাচে সুযোগ পাননি।
মাহমুদুল্লাহ রিয়াদ এর আগে পিএসএল খেলেছেন। সে হিসেবে সিপিএল হতে যাচ্ছে তার দ্বিতীয় বিদেশি লিগ। সিপিএলে সুযোগ পেয়ে ঢাকা ভিত্তিক একটি সংবাদ মাধ্যমকে রিয়াদ বলেছেন, ‘এটা আমার জন্য দারুণ একটা সুযোগ। চেষ্টা করবো ভালো কিছু করে আসার।’
