ভারত বিশ্বকাপে জায়গা হয়নি দুইবারের বিশ্বচ্যাম্পিয়ন উইন্ডিজের। একসময় বিশ্ব ক্রিকেটে দাপট দেখালেও বর্তমানে খেই হারিয়েছে দলটি। দলের এই কঠিন সময়ে আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেট বিদায়ের ঘোষণা দিলেন ক্যারিবীয় তারকা স্পিনার সুনিল নারিন।

সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যম ইনস্টাগ্রামে অবসরের বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন ২০১২ টি-টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপজয়ী দলের সদস্য নারিন নিজেই। ২০১৯ সালে সবশেষ জাতীয় দলে খেলা নারিনকে আর কখনও দেখা যাবে না উইন্ডিজের জার্সিতে।
নিজের অবসর প্রসঙ্গে নারিন লিখেছেন, ‘আমি চার বছর ধরে উইন্ডিজের হয়ে খেলছি না। আজ আমি আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেট থেকে অবসরের ঘোষণা দিচ্ছি।’
বিদায় বেলায় সমর্থকদের ধন্যবাদ জানাতে ভুলেননি নারিন, ‘এমন কিছু মানুষ আছেন যারা আমার ক্যারিয়ার জুড়ে আমাকে সমর্থন যুগিয়েছেন এবং উইন্ডিজের হয়ে প্রতিনিধিত্ব করার সময় আমাকে সাহায্য করেছেন। আমি তাদের প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করছি।’
আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেট থেকে বিদায় নিলেও ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটে নিয়মিত দেখা যাবে নারিনকে। উইন্ডিজের জার্সিতে ৬টি টেস্ট, ৬৫টি ওয়ানডে ও ৫১টি টি-টোয়েন্টি খেলেছেন তারকা এই স্পিনার। সবমিলিয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে ১৬৫টি উইকেট শিকার করেছেন নারিন।
